The Safe Haven Law - (Florida Statue – 383.50)/HB-7007.
A newborn infant born or left at a hospital, staffed 24/7 emergency medical service station or a staffed 24/7 fire station in accordance
with the Safe Haven law shall not be deemed abandoned and subject to reporting and investigation requirements unless there is
actual or suspected child abuse.
The Law permits Mothers and/or Fathers who are in possession of an unharmed newborn, approximately
Seven (7) days old or less, to leave them at a “Safe Haven”, (Hospitals and 24/7 staffed Fire/EMS Stations).
no questions asked, totally anonymous, free from fear of prosecution.
Note: There have been instances when a person(s) indicate they
are leaving the Newborn at a “Safe Haven” for the biological parent(s); when quite often, they in fact are the parent(s). Due to the
parent(s) anonymity protection this statement cannot be verified. The licensed child placement agency receiving the newborn will
follow Florida Adoption protocols, i.e.: checking missing children resources, the putative father registry, etc.
