Law Enforcement -
Law Enforcement facilities by Florida Statue:383.50/HB- 7007 are not designated “Safe Havens”.
There have been instances where babies were left with personnel at law enforcement facilities:
The mother's obvious intent was to leave the baby in safety under the “Safe Haven” program.
Law enforcement followed the “Safe Haven” process and considered this action the “Spirit of the law”.
The mother was not retained and her anonymity was protected as the law allowed.
Depending on the location and circumstances, law enforcement proceeded to contact Fire Rescue, EMS or transported the baby directly to the nearest hospital.
Therefore, notification of law enforcement is not required, nor specified under the law unless signs of abuse or neglect are suspected.
If signs of abuse or neglect are suspected please contact your local law enforcement agency and DCF (Department of Children
and Families) at 1-800-96-ABUSE.
