The “Safe Haven” law requires absolute anonymity of the parent(s); therefore, information that could identify or provide a means to contact them should not be made available to any organization - public or private, including adoption agencies.

Newborn Intake / Processing by Hospitals:
Information that could be used by the hospital, government or any other entity to identify , locate, send correspondence to or fulfill Hospital billing or follow-up requirements, may inadvertently reveal or disclose to others, the personal choice this parent has made.

As an example – messages should not be left on cell or land line communications or correspondence sent to any address provided, unless approved by the mother in advance.
It is critical that all hospital personnel understand the importance in protecting the mothers anonymity at all cost.
She made a courageous decision wishing to be protected, as intended, under the “Safe Haven Law”.

We do not want to discourage her or any parent(s) from utilizing the “Safe Haven” program, which has now saved numerous lives in Florida.
