At the finalization hearing, the judge will review all the documents, interview the adoptive family, and order that the adoption be finalized. At that time, the judge will indicate in the order of finalization that the baby's name be changed to whatever name the adoptive parents have chosen for the baby.
A new birth certificate will be requested at that time and the Clerk of the Courts
office will send the required documentation to the Department of Health Office of Vital Statistics to issue a new birth certificate
with the child’s new name and the names of the adoptive parents.
