Determining the Age -

 

The newborn being left at a “Safe Haven” must be “approximatelySeven (7) days old or less, as determined by a licensed physician.

 
Since it might be difficult to determine the age of the newborn infant received at the Fire or EMS station, allow the receiving facility (hospital) to make the age determination and subsequent decision. 
                            
Depending on the circumstances, babies older than seven (7) days have been accepted under the “Spirit of the Safe Haven Law” by legal authorities.
